Fair play all the way

During the U-17 World Cup in Indonesia at the end of 2023, a robust doping control programme was put into effect. This programme involved the collection of over 200 urine samples, both during and outside the games, along with more than 40 random dried blood spot tests.

Challenge

When transporting blood and urine samples to the lab for banned substance testing, speed is critical. At the same time, maintaining the integrity and tamper-proof security of these samples during transit is extremely important. After all, the results of these tests can influence the outcome of the world’s most competitive sporting events. Flights for such missions are usually booked one to two weeks in advance, depending on the match schedule. But if delays occur, a rapid response is required.

Solution

MBS Anytime was entrusted to manage the logistics of banned substance testing during the U-17 World Cup. After the responsible official bodies collected and labelled the blood and urine samples in accordance with the regulations, they handed the samples over to the Anytime on-board couriers in specially sealed boxes. These couriers then personally accompanied the cargo all the way to the selected accredited laboratory for testing. In addition to routine freight documents, the couriers carried certificates that permitted the transportation of the liquid quantities within the airplane cabin, avoiding any unwarranted opening by airport personnel. They logged every handover, and proactively reported the completion of each transport stage. Furthermore, these couriers were trained and verified according to the Air Freight Security Act, equipping them to handle such sensitive cargo. In the event of delays, a well-prepared contingency was ready for action.

Result

Every sample made it to the labs right on schedule, and the results of all tests were negative. This meant the U-17 World Cup could proceed as planned. Notably, the German team also won the tournament for the first time in history!
