How to move 14,000 TEU with style

A multinational budget fashion retailer sought a reliable and efficient solution for managing procurement logistics from Asia. With over 1,000 stores in 40 countries and an annual sourcing volume of up to 14,000 TEU, the company faced the challenge of designing its global supply chains to be as transparent and cost-effective as possible.

Challenge

The retailer required a tailored logistics solution that extended beyond traditional transport management. Prioritising promotional and seasonal items was crucial to ensure timely deliveries to sales outlets. The complexity of the operation was further heightened by the broad range of sourcing countries (China, Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Indonesia), alongside the need for real-time data and seamless integration with the client’s existing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

Solution

MBS Logistics has supported the client with a customised Purchase Order Management system, “Perfect Supply.” This solution, precisely aligned with the client’s requirements, is seamlessly integrated with their ERP, enabling real-time tracking and transparent data flow. The client determines a dynamic mix of carriers, which MBS implements through daily shipping proposals. The client has the flexibility to confirm or adjust these proposals, adding an extra layer of control.

MBS also manages communication with suppliers, tracking production status and proactively addressing potential delays. Information is maintained in Perfect Supply, with alerts triggered if delivery dates are at risk. Regular visits to suppliers and consolidation warehouses in sourcing countries ensure that standards are maintained and processes run smoothly.

Result

This bespoke solution has been in place since 2010, enabling the retailer to achieve exceptional cost efficiency. With container utilisation rates exceeding 90% and precise delivery management, MBS Logistics demonstrated resilience even during crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the Suez Canal blockage, and a civil conflict in Southeast Asia. MBS successfully navigated these challenges without compromising supply chain stability.
